Con la colaboración de Jose A. Toirac y Elio Rodriguez
La serie consiste en imágenes recicladas, ya sean de fotografias o pinturas que de alguna forma tratan de exhaltar la belleza femenina usando una historia o solamente el retrato. Me apropio de estas imágenes utilizando a mi esposa como modelo o hilo conductor de la serie y trato de rediseñar el mito de Elena como simbolo de belleza.

The series consists of recycles images, whether photographs or paintings that somehow try to exalt the female beauty using only a story or portrait. I appropriate these images using my wife as a model or theme of the series and try to redesign the myth of Elena as a symbol of beauty.
¿Quien no ha soñado con tener de pareja alguien importante o famoso? O ser uno mismo alguien relevante.
En muchos casos esta idea se convierte en obseción y en intancias el motor para la realización o el fracaso.
La imagen de Elena como Betty Page, Marilyn o como modelos que sirvieron a pintores y fotografos importantes, trata de darle al espectador la posibilidad de ser juez en la controversial polémica acerca de "El artista hace la imagen o La imagen hace el artista".
Who has not dreamed of being with someone important or famous? Or be yourself someone relevant.
In many cases this idea becomes an obsession and, in instances, the engine for the performance or failure.
The image of Elena as Betty Page, Marilyn or other models who served important painters and photographers, try to give the spectators the opportunity to be a judge on the controversial debate of whether "The artist makes the image or the image makes the artist".
"Un buen artista copia, un gran artista roba"
La "apropiación" forma parte del argumento propuesto por los artistas apropiacionistas quienes aludían que sus obras no eran una mera copia sino un nuevo original recontextualizado y resignificado. Por ello, la apropiación supone otro tipo de efecto estético (además del que esta dado por las cualidades materiales, formas, figuras, colores que asemejan a las dos obras) producido por el tipo de relación intertextual que mantiene una obra con la otra, y con otros textos, que posibilitan refleccionar sobre las nociones de verdad, copia y unicidad.
"Appropriation" is part of the proposed argument by appropriationist artists who alluded that their works were not merely a copy but a new original redefined and recontextualized. Therefore, appropriation is another kind of aesthetic effect (besides the one given by the material, qualities, forms, shapes, colors that resemble the two works) produced by the kind of intertextual relationship remains a work with the other, and other texts, which allow reflection on notions of thuth, copy and uniqueness.
Los artistas de los nuevos medios suelen trabajar en régimen de "cooperación". En primer lugar, esto se debe a que muchos proyectos de nuevos medios necesitan una amplia gama de aptitudes tecnológicas y artísticas para ser llevados a cabo. En segundo lugar, el motivo de la colaboración es de carácter más ideológico que práctico. De esta manera, los artistas desafian el tópico del artista como genio solitario.
The new media artists often work on a "cooperation". First, this is because many new media projects require a wide range of technological and artistic skills. Second, the reason for the collaboration is more ideological than practical. In this manner, the artists defy the topic of the artist as solitary genius.
Para mí la apropiación y la colaboración han sido las herramientas perfectas para el aprendizaje, y el medio ideal de expresión ya que aprendo apropiandome de obras que por su discurso, técnica o autor han sido trascendentes en la historia del arte, y con la colaboración con mis maestros reafirmo la importancia de la escuela por encima del ego personal del autodidactismo.
For me, appropriation and collaboration are the perfect tools for learning, and ideal medium of expression, since I learn appropriating works that on their discourse, technique or author have been far-reaching in the history of art, and with the collaboration of my masters, I reaffirm the importance of the school above the personal ego of autodidactim.
Doy gracias a todos los que en mís obras, e incluso en este texto colaboraron de manera incognita, y solo espero que me "expongan".

Los artistas de los nuevos medios suelen trabajar en régimen de "cooperación". En primer lugar, esto se debe a que muchos proyectos de nuevos medios necesitan una amplia gama de aptitudes tecnológicas y artísticas para ser llevados a cabo. Para mí la apropiación y la colaboración han sido las herramientas perfectas para el aprendizaje, y el medio ideal de expresión ya que aprendo apropiandome de obras que por su discurso, técnica o autor han sido trascendentes en la historia del arte, y con la colaboración con mis maestros reafirmo la importancia de la escuela por encima del ego personal del autodidactismo.

Afrodita lo prometió, y la di su manzana, llevar a Elena conmigo aunque comenzara otra guerra en su nombre, crear algo que me inmortalizara (2 veces), cruzar el mar y probar suerte en un lugar lejano.

He tenido el honor que Bernardo Prieto me haya permitido apreciar su arte. Por eso me siento honrado y agradecido. Estoy convencido que Bernardo es un artista de una sensibilidad y creatividad excepcional pues con su talento y humildad ha logrado transcender los estereotipos de su contexto histórico y cultural para proyectar su mensaje universal: no existe el arte sin la apropiación pero tampoco existe la apropiación sin la pasión.
ReplyDeleteI have had the honor that Bernardo Prieto has allowed me to appreciate his art. For that I am flattered and grateful. I am convinced that Bernardo is an artist with exceptional sensibility and creativity because with his talent he has successfully transcended historical and cultural stereotypes to send his universal message: there is no art without appropriation but there is no appropriation without passion.
